Broadband Advisory Group (BAG Submission, Aug 2002
 
Established in March 2002, the Broadband Advisory Group (BAG) was an expert advisory body on broadband issues.  Its role was to assist the Federal Government to ensure that its broadband policy framework optimises the economic and social benefits that Australia derives from broadband services (extract from BAG's home page, found via www.noie.gov.au).

In mid 2002, the BAG invited public submissions.  Some 69 were subsequently listed on the BAG site.  As the site is no longer active, please click below for a copy of Callpoint's submission.

Author's note: In the BAG's final report (January 2003), two noteworthy recommendations were made.  Refer Section 7 (p47), Flexible Regulatory Regime and Policy Setting:

  • Need to reduce information asymmetries facing new entrants
  • Need to restore investor confidence in the telecommunications industr
