Senate Broadband Inquiry (August 2004)
In June 2004 Callpoint's principal, Brian Beckor, contributed relevant background and the list of Telstra geospatial datasets that would need to be made available to support a pro-competitive infrastructure-based broadband industry.
A number of significant participants - with ATUG being a key driving force - strove to protect Australia's competitive telecommunications industry in the broadband era through these recommendations.
These collective efforts culiminated in the watershed Recommendation 10:
The Committee recommends that the Australian Communications Authority be provided with all of Telstra's current geospatial datasets, and that the Australian Communications Authority make available these datasets on request, in a useable format, to other carriers and ISPs (para. 4.88)
