Melbourne University (Oct 2004) The growing importance of broadband to Australia's economic and social development is well known. However, broadband networks do not just appear, they need to be firstly planned and designed, and these disciplines involve high levels of engineering skill.
On 20 October, Brian Beckor was invited to present to final year Melbourne University Electrical Engineering students. Dr Bob Warfield had this to say:
"Our students are motivated to develop professional skills and knowledge they will use to solve real-world problems. Brian's presentation, based on his extensive industry experience, gave us an appreciation of the discipline of geospatial analysis, and provided suggestions for those wanting to include geospatial techniques into their future careers. The live demonstration of GeoCarrier, as an essential tool for designing telecommunications access networks, provided an excellent extension of the technical material taught in the subjects of Broadband Access Networks and Fundamentals of Network Design. I would be happy to recommend his presentation to other interested parties."
