Local Government Area (LGA) Broadband Reports The need for high speed broadband in today's economy is a given. To achieve this ideal in a comprehensive manner across one or more councils, Local Government Areas or Regional Organisation of Councils requires vision, energy and a well developed strategy.
Knowing the state of broadband play across local regions is an important part of the Situation Analysis phase of your Broadband Strategy development. To this end, Callpoint provides reports that integrate important supply, demand and time series analysis across an LGA or cluster of adjacent LGAs.
The impetus for these reports was DCITA's Demand Aggregation Broker Programs, Round 1 and Round 2. The first report was delivered in December 2004. To-date, Callpoint's reports have been created for 61 Australian Local Government Areas, nearly 10% of the LGAs in the nation. A variation of the reports was created for a New Zealand council in 2006.
Reports have been produced for Macedon Ranges Shire Council (3 LGAs) and Murray Regional Development Board (7 LGAs). Other reports have been sold via Callpoint's partner/ distributor, GDI.
Report Overview
The reports are LGA centric, grouped as required to the Regional/ Regional Organisation of Council level.
The reports are generated by a custom reporting suite within Callpoint's GeoCarrier® geospatial software application. The suite connects to 12 third party data sources (spatial and non-spatial) to create high level as well as detailed, in-depth, maps, charts and analysis.
GeoCarrier® performs its spatial computations and exports the results to a set of PowerPoint slides and Excel tables. Optionally, key outputs e.g. ADSL Blackspot/ Under-served can be requested as GIS layers to assist with Council's future planning efforts.
The LGA reports are split into three groups:
LGA Summaries - ADSL coverage summary/ statistics - ADSL Blackspot/ Under-Served premises map - ADSL coverage statistics (businesses and residences) - Exchange Service Areas (ESAs) within the LGA (map + table) - Exchange Activation Timeline (inc. State comparison)
LGA Views This group comprises: - Properties and premises - Businesses and residences - Topographic view - Wireless tower coverage - ADSL coverage - 'Outside LGA' exchanges
In-Depth Exchange Service Area (ESA) Profiles These are created for each of the ESAs that are spatially within the LGA. These slides are structured similarly to the In-Depth ESA Profiles that Callpoint creates for carriers.
Customisation
Callpoint has modified the standard report structure to take account of specific client needs with respect to other broadband infrastructure and backhaul. Typically however, such data is subject to a Non Disclosure Agreement.
